Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: ALOS PALSAR data, primarily the polarimetric mode, will be used to develop and validate a soil moisture algorithm for conditions typical of the Southern Great Plains of the U.S. Radarsat, ERS, JERS, SIR-C, AIRSAR, and aircraft scatterometer data are available to develop and evaluate concepts. Simulations with the IEM will also be used for model development. A time series of Envisat ASAR polarimetric observations will be collected prior t and during the ALOS PALSAR investigation. The PALSAR data will be supported by ground truth observations of soil moisture and related parameters. In addition, data collection will be coordinated with other intensive experiments that will include scatterometer observations and provide a broader set of conditions for validation.
