Technical Abstract: The heat shock proteins (HSP) are a group of highly conserved proteins that are induced by various forms of stress. In order to understand the molecular basis of how insects survive subzero overwintering temperatures, members of the 70 kDa heat shock protein family were cloned using RT-PCR and 3'-RACE. The knowledge generated in this study will lead to improved storage techniques for agriculturally important insects. In this technical report the nucleotide sequence (1863 bases) for a member (LdHSP70A) of the Colorado potato beetle inducible 70 kDa heat shock protein family is presented. The information is directed toward specialists who are interested in the physiological and ecological roles of the heat shock proteins in insect adaptation to environmental stress.
