Technical Abstract: Starch-oil composites (Fantesk**TM) are prepared by jet-cooking an aqueous dispersion of starch and oil. This process, at the end, gives a free-flowing powder that contains the lipid phase in droplets ranging from 1-10 micrometers. This powder can easily be dispersed in water, and it can also act as an emulsifier for blending lipids. The lipid phase does not separate from these dispersions upon standing or when subjected to several freeze-thaw cycles. These properties enable the use of Fantesk in lubricant formulations. In this work, solid film lubricant formulations comprising starch-oil composites were prepared and their friction properties were studied. Fantesk formulations comprising starch and soybean oil were applied on metal sheets from aq. sucrose solutions. The effect of starch-to-oil ratio and sucrose concentration and drying time on coefficients of friction were evaluated. It was possible to obtain coefficient of friction values as low as 0.08.
