Technical Abstract: This is a reply to comments from Dr. P.I.A. Kinnell on a published manuscript titled 'Vertical hydraulic gradient and run-on water and sediment effects on erosion processes and sediment regimes' in Soil Science Society of America Journal, 64:4-11, 2000. In this reply, we clarify the misunderstanding of Kinnell on our experimental procedure and interpretation of the results. We emphasis the utility of the multiple-box system that we have designed to further our knowledge on soil erosion processes under variable surface conditions.
