Technical Abstract: The sticktight flea, Echidnophaga gallinacea, can be a problem for small flock owners, causing damage to adult chickens and mortality in chicks and young birds. Although these fleas are rarely seen in large numbers, a larger-than-average number of outbreaks have been reported in the Southeast in the past 10 months. Therefore, a fact sheet was written to provide small flock owners with information about the biology and control of this flea. Small flock owners were also given links to web sites where more detailed information could be obtained.
