Technical Abstract: The book, "Hawkmoths of the World," is reviewed. The book consists of a thorough introductory chapter, a complete checklist of species, and a "Notes" section in which all changes in the nomenclature are detailed. Two new species and two new subspecies are described in the appendix. Because hawkmoths are large and conspicuous, they are relatively well known; there are about 1,050 species worldwide. The family includes a number of pests of agricultural and/or ornamental plants, including the tobacco hornworm, tomato hornworm, elm sphinx, sweetpotato hornworm, walnut sphinx, and many others.
