Technical Abstract: Product quality parameters and testing methods aid in predicting the performance and some properties of a product, such as biodiesel (an increasingly significant use of vegetable oil derivatives), obtained from renewable resources. A traditional parameter in fatty acid chemistry, the iodine value, has been applied to biodiesel. In conjunction with a newer testing method, oxidative stability index, the applicability of the iodine value to biodiesel is studied here in more detail. Development of an improved parameter seems likely as a result. This would aid in predicting some biodiesel properties more accurately and with greater facility.
