Technical Abstract: Although reliable seedling tests are available to determine genetic resistance to various blast races, the results from such tests become complicated when test varieties contain multiple genes for resistance and/or genes for partial or incomplete resistance. Determination of linkage between molecular markers and the multiple and incomplete resistance genes would allow incorporation of Marker Assisted Selection into the local breeding program, thus allowing the breeder to more efficiently combine resistance genes in improved varieties. We identified molecular markers associated with four genes capable of conferring complete resistance to one or more races of the blast pathogen. Previous pedigree analysis suggested that Lemont had obtained its resistance from its parental line 'Dawn'. This was verified by the location and effect of the single gene we identified from Lemont. Breeding efforts to incorporate the three additional genes identified in Teqing can now use the molecular markers identified here.
