Technical Abstract: A major challenge of the dairy industry is to optimize milk production and profits while minimizing the environmental impacts of animal manure. The global objectives of this dairy nutrient management research program are to improve the efficiency of nutrient utilization by the animal, to assess and minimize nutrient losses from animal housing and manure storage facilities, to modify the plant availability of manure nutrients, to develop methods for rapid nutrient analysis, and to estimate manure nutrient availability.
