Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In this chapter, genetic resistance to nematodes in cotton is reviewed. Following a brief treatment of terminology, responses of resistant and susceptible plants are contrasted at the plant, tissue, and cellular level. Progress in the development of resistant cotton cultivars is then discussed in relation to nematode specificity, germplasm resources, and inheritance. Finally, some avenues for obtaining resistant cultivars through biotechnology are noted.
