Technical Abstract: Eight hundred-fifty accessions have been added to the U.S. germplasm collection of peanut since the initial selection of a peanut core collection in the early 1990's. The primary objective of this research was to select representatives from these accessions to add to the peanut core collection. A secondary objective was to evaluate various selection methods that could be used to select a core collection. Twenty selection methods were used to generate various core subsets. These included simple random sampling, random sampling after stratification, and random sampling after multivariate clustering. These selection methods were evaluated based on their ability to identify sources of resistance to the peanut root-knot nematode and sources of resistance to leaf spot in the 850 accessions.
