Technical Abstract: A series of isolations of fungi from surface-sterilized cysts of soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines; SCN) from sites in China has yielded a new genus of Hyphomycetes. The acicular, 1-celled conidia of this fungus are produced on short, swollen conidiogenous cells atop a stout, erect conidiophore that is held upright on the substrate by a set of unusual basal rhizoids that barely project from the base of the conidiophore before bending straight down into the substrate. The pathogenicity of this fungus has been confirmed by bioassays against the host soybean cyst nematodes. The fungus is characterized, and data about its activity against SCN and root knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) are presented.
