Interpretive Summary: Drainage properties of a land surface can be automatically determined by computer if the topography is available in digital form. A software package that processes such a digital land surface has been developed by ARS to define land surface properties for surface runoff and erosion investigations. This document is the installation guide that helps the user rinstall the software on his/her computer and test the proper operation of the software.

Technical Abstract: This installation guide provides information on the installation and verification of TOPAZ Ver. 3.1. TOPAZ is distributed by FTP over the internet. The user must first download the documentation programs and the verification data sets into specified directories. Thereafter, the programs are compiled and verified using a provided verification data set. The installation instructions in this guide refer to the installation of eithe ASCII format files (for most operating systems), or WINEXE format files (for Windows 95/98). Once the installation and verification are successfully completed the TOPAZ software can be utilized for general user selected applications.
