Interpretive Summary: Pigs are important to the economy of the US. Control of infectious diseases is necessary for the success of swine industry. In the present book chapter, the authors review current information on protozoan infections of pigs. The coccidium, Cystoisospora suis causes diarrhea in newborn pigs. Public health and clinical aspects of another protozoan disease, toxoplasmosis is discussed. Information on other infections, Cryptosporidium, Giardia and Balantidium are reviewed including their public health importance. These results will be of interest to veterinarians, parasitologists, and swine producers.
