Interpretive Summary: Longhorned beetles are very important to agriculture and the economy because they damage a variety of plants during their development. Pests such as the Asian longhorn beetle have cost millions of dollars of damage to trees in several urban areas in North America. Longhorned woodboring beetles are one of the most commonly intercepted groups of insects by USDA port inspectors because the larvae are easily transported in wooden-crating carrying cargo, or in nursery plants themselves. This paper provides identification characters for adults of a large group of these beetles from the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean region--one of the most important avenues for invasive species into the United States. Five new species are described, along with twenty-two previously poorly known species. Distribution maps and known biological information are presented for all species. This study will be crucial for port identifiers, regulatory personel associated with APHIS-PPQ, nursery workers, and urban entomologists in their effort to monitor North America for invasive species.

Technical Abstract: The Prioninae (Cerambycidae) of Hispaniola are reviewed. Tweny-seven species are known from the island, including five new ones and a new genus described herein: Elateropsis dichroma Lingafelter, new species, Elateropsis woodleyi Lingafelter, new species, Solenoptera tomentosa Lingafelter, new species, Solenoptera helbi Lingafelter, new species, and Derancistrachroma melanoleuca Lingafelter, new genus and new species. The first known female of Elateropsis trimarginatus (Cazier and Lacey) is described. Diagnoses and discussion are provided for each species. New country records are recorded for Strongylaspis corticarius (Erichson), Monodesmus atratus Fisher, Derancistrodes vittatus (Olivier), Elateropsis quinquenotatus (Cazier and Lacey), and Elateropsis sericeiventris Chevrolat. A key to all the Prioninae known from Hispaniola is included.
