Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A small conference was held in Houston, TX, in May 2014, to address how to enhance exergames to increase physical activity. Several leading researchers were asked to address specific topics. Attendees came from across the globe. This Games for Health Journal Special Issue is devoted to sharing the articles and working group discussions from that conference. We hope these proceedings stimulate new exergames, more innovative research, and increased physical activity among players. More intercourse is needed between the exergame industry and those conducting related research. Hopefully, these proceedings will fall into industry's hands, and companies may contact participants presenting ideas attractive to them. All attendees felt more research is needed for exergames to achieve their full potential. More research requires more research support. Hopefully, industry will enter collaborations to support research that not only add to their bottom line, but enhance our understanding of the medium's effectiveness. With government research funding declining, new sources are needed to maintain research efforts.
