Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The sugarcane aphid, Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), has been a sporadic but sometimes serious problem on sugarcane in Louisiana since its first discovery in 1999. LSU AgCenter and USDA-ARS scientists have studied aspects of sugarcane aphid management on sugarcane, including pest status, varietal resistance, insecticide efficacy, and the role of a lady beetle natural enemy. This presentation will provide an overview of studies conducted in Louisiana sugarcane, and will compare the current situation in sugarcane with the situation in sorghum.
