Lancet. 382(9904):1549. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Researchers and clinicians have struggled to quantify the effects of malnutrition across populations. In this correspondence piece, the authors argue the need for studies examining the incidence of malnutrition rather than the population prevalence. The piece also touches on other social and political issues associated with the Lancet's series on maternal and child nutrition. Severe malnutrition has been reported as population prevalence; instead we suggest cases be calculated by incidence, to account for the deaths associated with this serious diagnosis. |
