Complete genome sequence of a virulent Streptococcus agalactiae strain 138P isolated from diseased Nile tilapia. Genome Announcements. 2(2):e00295-14. Interpretive Summary: We announce the complete genome sequence of a fish bacterial pathogen, Streptococcus agalactiae strain 138P. This pathogen was isolated from the kidney of diseased Nile tilapia in Idaho during a 2007 streptococcal disease outbreak. The full genome of this fish pathogen strain is 1,838,716 base pairs. The publishing of this genome will allow comparison between this fish pathogen and other pathogens to discover novel antigens for the purpose of vaccine development. Technical Abstract: Streptococcus agalactiae strain 138P was isolated from the kidney of diseased Nile tilapia in Idaho during a 2007 streptococcal disease outbreak. The full genome of S. agalactiae 138P is 1,838,716 bp. The availability of this genome will allow comparative genomics to identify genes for antigen discovery and vaccine development. |
