Interpretive Summary: A new method to estimate the spatial distribution of snow water equivalent (SWE) in mountainous areas is using a combination of modeling and remote sensing is presented. This model is based on remote sensing imagery and energy balance calculations only and allows us to compute the SWE distribution at sub-pixel resolution for any day during the melt season. No precipitation input is needed to drive this model, hence it could be a valuable addition to the existing toolboxes of hydrologic modelling researchers and practitioners.

Technical Abstract: A novel reconstruction method that estimates the spatial distribution of snow water equivalent (SWE) in mountainous areas is presented.
