Interpretive Summary: In most growing seasons the diseases of most concern to pecan growers in the southeastern United States are pecan scab (particularly in wet years) and anthracnose (most often a problem when trees are stressed in mid-late season). Pecan is known to also be affected by at least 17 other pathogens, only a few of which cause occasional disease or reach epidemic proportions that threaten nut yield or quality. A wet growing season provides especially favorable conditions for several of these pathogens. Four lesser diseases that can threaten tree health and crop yield and quality during wet seasons are Phytophthora Shuck and Kernel Rot, Zonate Leaf Spot, Liver Spot and Downy Spot. The identification, management and control of these diseases is discussed.
