Interpretive Summary: The ipomoviruses are a small group of viruses, with only five assigned and one putative species at present. However, these few viruses are increasingly impacting agricultural production systems worldwide. This book chapter summarizes the current knowledge of whitefly transmission of the most-studied members of this group.

Technical Abstract: Ipomoviruses including Squash vein yellowing virus, Cucumber vein yellowing virus and Cassava brown streak virus are currently causing significant economic impact on crop production in several regions of the world. Only recently have results of detailed characterization of their whitefly transmission (an important component of the diseases they cause) become available. This chapter summarizes this information for research and regulatory scientists, and crop producers.
