Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This study was made to determine the mosquitocidal properties of Acalypha alnifolia leaf extract combined with the use of Metarizhium anisopliae spores for control of the lymphatic filariasis vector Culex quinquefasciatus. The methanolic leaf extract showed larvicidal and pupicidal effects after 24 h exposure. No mortality was observed in the controls. The results indicate that leaf extracts of A. alnifolia when combined with M. anisopliae spores result in significant mortality in larvae and pupae of Cx. quinquefasciatus. Integration of the two natural product-based mosquitocides has potential to provide effective and ecofriendly control of this mosquito vector of lymphatic filariasis.
