Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Field plots of Gossypium hirsutum L. cultivar Siokra L-23 were grown under rainfed and irrigated treatments in a field with very sandy soil. During the reproductive growth period, root and leaf tissues were collected from each treatment. The RNA of all root and leaf tissues was used as a template in a cDNA-Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism based global gene expression analysis. The objective was to identify genome-wide genes differentially expressed in response to water deficit stress. We report the submission of 147 transcript derived fragments to the National Center for Biotechnology Information. These data provide genetic targets to manipulate the water use characteristics of cotton at the molecular level.
