Interpretive Summary: Understanding the flora of a region is important, especially in a highly agricultural area like Washington County, MS. Many native and non-native species are or have the potential to become weeds in corn, cotton, rice, sorghum, soybean, and wheat and non agricultural settings. Of the 796 species reported for the county, 257 are reported as new to the county. Two species, red maids and a wild petunia, are reported new to Mississippi and both possess weedy traits in Washington County.

Technical Abstract: Field explorations have yielded 257 species new to Washington County, Mississippi and Calandrinia ciliata (Ruiz & Pav.) DC. and Ruellia nudiflora (Engelm. & Gray) Urban new to the state. An annotated list of 796 taxa for Washington County is provided and excludes 62 species that were reported from counties adjacent and included in the Washington County and environs flora, but have yet to be documented from Washington County.
