Information stored at MaizeGDB is used by researchers to improve corn through plant breeding and genetic techniques. MaizeGDB turns 20 this year. This editorial outlines MaizeGDB's history and connection to the Maize Genetics Cooperation, describes key components of how the MaizeGDB interface will be completely redesigned over the course of the next two years to meet current needs, and describes how the fields of breeding and basic biology are coming together and jointly benefit from the MaizeGDB resource. Improving access to maize information will enable researchers to more efficiently improve corn to meet consumer needs.
