Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In this presentation we simulate saturated flow through macroporous soil columns (7.62x18 cm) with a lattice Boltzmann model and compare results with measured saturated hydraulic conductivities. Porous geometry was obtained with an industrial CT scanner yielding a resolution of 119 microns (656x656x1482 voxels) and processed with several segmentation algorithms to generate pore solid classifications from gray-scale data. In this presentation we will define the optimal resolution and discuss the merits of selected segmentation algorithms.
