Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Fungal endophytes are quite common in nature and some of them have been shown to have adverse effects against insects, nematodes, and plant pathogens. An introduction to fungal endophytes will be presented, followed by a discussion of research aimed at introducing Beauveria bassiana as a fungal endophyte in coffee plants as a novel biological control mechanism against the coffee berry borer. The possible mode of action of entomopathogenic fungal endophytes will be discussed.
