Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: In the course of studying pathogenesis of enteric septicemia of catfish, we noted that channel catfish matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) gene was up-regulated after Edwardsiella ictaluri infection. In this study, we cloned and sequenced MMP-9 genomic DNA by using a Unversal GenomeWalker kit. The complete sequence of the MMP-9 genomic DNA consisted of 5663 nucleotides. Analysis of the sequence revealed that channel catfish MMP-9 contains 13 eons (#1-#13). The numbers of base pairs of each exon are as follows (exon 1 - 13): 160, 236, 151, 130, 177, 174, 177, 159, 236, 142, 155, 107, and 108, respectively. More than ten clones were sequenced and the same results were obtained.
