Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (SR) is the major source of food composition data in the United States, providing the foundation for most food composition databases in the public and private sectors. Most nutrition professionals are familiar with the basics of the SR online search application. However, they may not be as familiar with the other SR applications and reports, as well as the additional food composition products that the Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) has to offer. All of this information is easily accessible at no charge on the NDL Web site, http://www.ars.usda.gov/nutrientdata. Some of the newer features of the SR search applications will be demonstrated. Special Interest Databases and other products will be reviewed and discussed. In addition, participants will learn how to create personalized nutrient reports by manipulating the SR data downloaded into Microsoft Access. In-depth knowledge of SR and other NDL products will enable nutrition professionals to better serve their clients due to their enhanced ability to provide quality, up-to-date information about the nutrients in the foods their clients consume.
