Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Four dietary treatments fed to male broilers (Gallus domesticus) for three consecutive 42 d trials were a yellow dent corn (YDC) or control diet, a high available phosphorus/low phytate corn (HAPC) diet, a phytase enzyme (PHYT) supplement to the YDC, and a HAPC and PHYT combination diet (H&P). Dietary available P formulations were adjusted for the inclusion of HAPC and PHYT. After flocks one and two, alum was added to the litter base at a rate of 0.091 kg/bird. Fifty-five birds per pen in 32 pens comprised each grow out. Litter samples were taken after each flock was terminated and concentrations of Al, Ca, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, P (both total and water-soluble), and Zn were measured using ICP. Total concentrations of all minerals except for Al and N were reduced using alum and water-soluble P was reduced as well. For Ca, Cu, and Mg, the effect of HAPC was significant, resulting in increased levels of these elements in the no alum HAPC and H&P diets. Results show the importance of animal diet and supplementary treatments on prediction of nutrients for the comprehensive nutrient management plan.
