Interpretive Summary: Graduate students and early career professionals are increasingly unprepared to assume positions as career scientists, teachers, extension agents, or regulators. The Council of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) created a website called CADRE (Career Advancement and Development Resources and Education) to archive helpful articles, videos, and webinars addressing a variety of professional development topics to better prepare graduate students and early career professionals for their future careers. The success of CADRE will allow a more effective workforce of scientists to tackle future challenges in United States agriculture.

Technical Abstract: The Council of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) approved an initiative in February 2013 to create a web resource called CADRE (Career Advancement and Development Resources and Education). CADRE is to provide APS members an archive of articles, videos, and webinars about a variety of professional development topics. Furthermore, CADRE will host a mentoring site where mentors can connect with those needing mentoring. CADRE helps fulfill an APS societal initiative to provide resources to better prepare graduate students and early career professionals for their future careers.
