Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Several technology based systems for diet assessment among children have been developed. Reports on these systems were incorporated into this special journal issue. This is the first compendium of reports on diet assessment among children. The different systems vary from simple to complex, and from less to more accurate. This editorial for the special issue identifies the problems in dietary self report, summarizes the findings of each of the systems reported, and identifies the directions for further development and research to achieve accurate, but lower cost, diet assessment among children.
