Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Aedes albopictus is an invasive species. Its oviposition behavior is the subject of several projects in our research unit. The main emphasis of this presentation is a study which utilizes two five gallon buckets, one heated and one with ambient temperature. The heat is provided by an aquarium heater. The original objective was to determine if heated water will extend the length of time seasonally that this mosquito species will oviposit. As the study progressed it became apparent that the heated bucket seemed to be the preferred oviposition site. Observations were made on the water clarity, as well as flora and fauna in each bucket as the year progressed. In addition to the bucket study, data will be presented on another study which compared oviposition patterns in 3 other types of containers.
