Technical Abstract: Hens are capable of fertilizing a daily succession of ovulated ova due to their ability to store sperm in the oviduct for several weeks. However, the precise biological mechanisms describing how sperm are selected and survive in the oviduct, and which sperm actually reach the site of fertilization continue to be largely unknown. The following report will provide a brief overview of the more current revelations in these areas.
