Interpretive Summary: A small mite known scientifically as Aceria paederiae (Nalepa) was observed infesting leaves of Paederia foetida L. (common name: skunkvine; Family Rubiaceae) in Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore. This is the first report of this mite in these countries of SE Asia. The mite induces small, round galls on both leaf surfaces. The complete descriptions of both males and females, including line drawings and SEM photographs are provided. This finding is of special interest as skunkvine is a problematic weed in both Florida and Hawaii. A biological control project is underway and this mite may prove to be an important control agent in the fight to control skunkvine.

Technical Abstract: Aceria paederiae (Nalepa) infesting leaves of Paederia foetida L. (Family Rubiaceae) in Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore is reported for the first time. The mite induces small, round galls on both leaf surfaces. The complete descriptions of both males and females, including line drawings and SEM photographs are provided.
