Technical Abstract: Aedes albopictus is a major human biting pest and is considered second only to Aedes aegypti in its importance as a disease vector of dengue. Aedes albopictus is responsible for the majority of service requests from urban and suburban residents in New Jersey during recent years; however, standard approaches to mosquito abatement have failed to control this back-yard mosquito species. We used BG Sentinel traps and ovitraps to monitor mosquito populations within 6 sites (2 full intervention, 2 minor intervention, 2 control sites) in Mercer and Monmouth Counties. We tested multiple control methods including, door-to-door source reduction and larvicide applications, ULV adulticide applications, and publication. The presentaion will summarize our results for the 2010 mosquito season.
