Technical Abstract: Professor, Dr. Márta Birkás invited several international colleagues to contribute chapters to a Memorial Volume reviewing soil management research conducted in Hungary and elswhere around the world. She asked each author to provide a brief account of how they had collaborated with her and to review their own research, teaching, development or other relevant activities, and achievements. This chapter chronicles more than 30 years of research conducted by the author. Key concepts include recognizing the importance of being able to frame the soil management challenge based on the spatial and temporal variability of the soil resource being studied and to see the "problem" through the eyes of the customer.
