Interpretive Summary: The coffee berry borer is the most devastating pest of coffee throughout the world and causes millions of dollars in losses each year. In this paper we report the detection, for the first time, of the coffee berry borer in coffee plantations in Kona, Hawaii. This information will be of use to regulatory officials, the coffee industry, and entomologists and pest managers combating invasive insect pests.
Technical Abstract:
coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) has been detected for the first time in coffee plantations in Kona, Hawaii.
