Technical Abstract:
Germplasm or cultivar releases intended for the Great Basin are scrutinized for their origin, due to the concern of potential mal-adaptation of non-local germplasm. However, collecting and maintaining highly localized populations of each species native to the Great Basin is intractable. In an effort to group populations geographically, quantitative phenotypic and genotypic assessments can be used to define traits with potential adaptive sigificance, climatic variables conditioning local adaptation, and genetically differentiated groups that represent evolutionary history. In this presentation, this effort is shown for three North American rangeland legumes.
