Technical Abstract: In 2009, a virulent strain of Aeromonas hydrophila was associated with severely acute to chronic mortality in catfish ponds in Alabama. This strain of A. hydrophila had not been previously identified in AL catfish. In a joint effort between the USDA ARS and Auburn University, a combination of approaches will be used to 1) monitor, respond, and measure the results of response, 2) survey fish and the environment for the 2009 strain, and 3) investigate risk factors for mortality. Work in progress and results to date will be discussed during the presentation.
