Technical Abstract: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the fundamental unit of genetic variation and are applied as molecular tools for genetic mapping, breeding, germplasm characterization, taxonomy, and evaluation of distinctness, uniformity and stability (DUS). We report 29 novel SNPs in 10 EST and COSII markers. SNPs were discovered in a germplasm sample representing five regions (Europe, USA/Canada, Mexico/Central America, Asia or South America) and three time ranges that reflect recent breeding history (1930s - 1940s, 1950s - 1960s or 1980s - 2000s). PCR primers, flanking sequences, and polymorphisms were included. This is a valuable public resource for tomato breeders and other researchers interested in tomato nucleotide variation.
