Technical Abstract: DNA sequence analyses, as well as other DNA-based methodologies, have transformed the way in which yeasts are identified. The focus of this chapter will be on the resolution of species using various types of DNA comparisons. In other chapters in this book, Rozpedowska, Piškur and Wolfe discuss multigene and whole genome analyses to understand species relationships and Weiss and Göker examine the phylogenetic methods used to determine these relationships.
