Technical Abstract: Catalpa tibetica (Bignoniaceae) is included within the circumscription of C. bignonioides, a North American species. The genus Catalpa is thereby reduced from 10 species to nine, and the number of native Chinese species from four to three. A preliminary synonymy for C. bignonioides is presented, including C. tibetica. The correct neotype and epitype for C. bignonioides are indicated.
