Interpretive Summary: This invited commentary discusses a recent group of papers on parasitic weeds. The different approaches to management of these pests are discussed.

Technical Abstract: A recent issue of the SCI journal Pest Management Science (May, 2009) was devoted to an overview of the problem of parasitic weeds and to the research that is being done to alleviate it. These papers are from an OECD-sponsored conference entitled Managing Parasitic Weeds that recently brought the best minds in this area together. Prof. Jonathan Gressel of the Weizmann Institute of Science edited this issue containing 22 papers that distill the latest research on understanding the biology of these weeds as well as approaches for controlling the problem, discussing chemical, ecological, and genetic strategies.
