Technical Abstract: Transcriptional regulatory sequences, including promoters and polyadenylation signals, are primary determinants of efficacy in introduced genes. Promoters determine both the transcriptional profile (developmental and environmental) and level of gene expression. We have undertaken a program to develop a library of potato transcriptional control sequences for both research and commercial applications. These elements are intended to replace currently employed proprietary sequences that can be difficult to license in commercial genes. Currently available sequences and their performance in transgenic potatoes will be discussed.
