Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This chapter describes the ascomycete yeast genus Phaffomyces and is to be published in "The Yeasts, A Taxonomic Study, 5th edition." The genus Phaffomyces was described for three species initially assigned to the genus Pichia, but these species proved quite distant from the type species of Pichia when analyzed from gene sequences. The species are unique because their habitat is restricted to cacti in Australia and islands of the Caribbean Sea.
