Interpretive Summary: One important tool of basic and applied research in cereal crops is germplasm resources. The goal of this manuscript was to provide information about germplasm resources for cereal crops. The manuscript describes history, potential utilization and sources of cereal germplasm resources. Knowledge of cereal germplasm resources will give us a greater understanding of genetic diversity available in cereal crops. This in turn can lead to a deeper understanding of methods to improve these crop plants.

Technical Abstract: Germplasm resources for the cereals are available from several sources. This paper discusses the history of germplasm banks, types of germplasm available and where to request seeds for different cereal species from.
