Interpretive Summary: This chapter describes use of molecular markers and transgenics in development of new cultivars in a survey obtained from public and private sector breeders. It also reviews traits in Rosaceae crops for which molecular markers are currently available for use in developing new crops. The surprising results are of interest to researchers, administrators, germplasm managers and public servants managing breeding programs and germplasm collections.
