Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Major infestations of the Red Palm Mite, Raoiella indica Hirst, have been reported in almost all the Caribbean islands and Venezuela. Correct identification of the mite and host associations is essential for the management and biocontrol of this invasive mite pest. This paper provides information on the systematics, taxonomy, and ecology of this species as well as the tools to separate it from other common mite pests.
